Barge Awarded Two FDOT Projects in Northwest Florida
- Update:4/27/2023
Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) District 3 awarded Barge Design Solutions two projects, including a roadway and bridge improvement project in the Pensacola/Escambia County area. These projects will extend the life expectancy of these vital transportation assets and improve overall safety for the traveling public on these corridors.
Barge will assist FDOT in the development of construction documents for the resurfacing of a two-mile section on I-10 in Pensacola, including U.S. Route 29 to State Route 291 and the Interstate 110 interchange. The firm will also design a single-span concrete bridge to replace the structurally deficient timber bridge on Guidy Lane in Pensacola. Barge partnered with a diverse and local project team of subconsultants known by District 3 with the technical experience necessary to complete the project successfully.
Over 11,000 vehicles travel across this bridge per day. The total estimated construction cost of the project is approximately $14.5 Million. The estimated completion for construction of the I-10 and Guidy Lane projects is 2026 and 2027, respectively.
“Since October 2018, Barge has helped Northwest Florida rebuild its communities in the aftermath of Hurricane Michael,” said Kevin Kennoy, Florida Client Service Leader/Vice President. “These infrastructure improvement projects totaling over $50 million include water, sewer, stormwater, sports complexes, and community parks. We look forward to continuing this important work with FDOT District 3, helping to extend the life of Guidy Bridge and the I-10 corridor.”
