Culture
At Barge Design Solutions (Barge), our culture fosters a commitment to safety, community service, and sustainable innovation, ensuring every project reflects our dedication to people and the environment.
Barge values the opportunity to collaborate with talented teams on various local, state, and federal projects. We are equally committed to staying compliant with the appropriate agencies, while our partnerships among small, minority, and disadvantaged businesses remain strong. Barge recognizes this diversity in how it strengthens and complements the abilities of both parties.
An Employee-Focused Culture
At Barge, we champion an employee-focused culture centered around work-life balance, family inclusivity, collaboration, and wellness. By nurturing a relaxed environment that empowers our team members to prioritize their personal lives, we strive to cultivate a cohesive community where everyone's contributions are valued. Our employees thrive, fostering productivity and contributing to our collective achievements when they feel content, involved, and supported in both their professional and personal pursuits.
At Barge, we're firm believers in the power of mentorship to nurture talent and drive growth. We foster a collaborative learning culture where mentors and mentees forge meaningful connections, unlocking their full potential together. Engaging in our mentorship initiative offers a meaningful opportunity to contribute positively and create a tangible difference in the lives of others.
Impacting Our
Communities
Barge is comprised of people who recognize the value of giving in our firm, in our communities, and across our region. We care deeply about making a positive impact, not only on an individual level, but as a company. Employees are passionate about making their communities and its citizens' lives better. Evidence can be found in the company's involvement with the establishment of its endowed scholarships at the schools of engineering for Vanderbilt University and the University of Tennessee. Barge partners with these respective institutions to grow the endowments with employee match contributions.
Barge Design Solutions, Inc.
Community Fund
You often find employees involved in civic organizations and other community-wide events, but more importantly, it is not unusual that we spend our time and talents on something much bigger. To further nurture this culture of generosity and support of our communities, we established the Barge Design Solutions, Inc. Community Fund in 2014. It provides an opportunity for our employees to come together and give back to the communities where they live and work.
Grants are given twice each year to organizations based on recommendations from employees. These grants are funded by employee contributions, either through direct contributions or payroll deductions, and matching contributions from Barge.
Diversity, Equity and
Inclusion (DEI) Council
We are committed to cultivating a sense of belonging where we recognize and amplify unique perspectives. Our One Barge: Many Perspectives community focuses on fully integrating diversity, equity, and inclusion into our culture at Barge. Our initiative isn't about checking items off a list or meeting quotas. It's about intentional progress toward ensuring diversity, equity, and inclusion in every aspect of our business, including staff education, recruitment and retention of talent and identifying strategic teaming within our communities. Barge continuously strives to be an employer of choice and provide innovative solutions to our clients, which happens when we listen to diversity of thought.
CHRIS GRACE, BIRMINGHAM The reason that I give is simple — it’s a part of our culture. The responsibility of stewardship begins at home, but opportunities to pay it forward can begin in our workplace.
MICHAEL COLE, DOTHAN Since its inception, the Community Fund has been near and dear to my heart. Witnessing the impact on organizations we've supported and the completion of projects with our funding has been truly inspiring. It's nice to see this in our communities and be able to give back where we live and work, and it also gives me a sense of pride to work for an organization that supports this initiative.
