The Challenge
With infrastructure projects and diverse assets spread across the state, the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) requires a partner capable of addressing its comprehensive environmental needs promptly. The scope of work can range from emergency field support for active construction projects to data collection for long-term capital planning related to infrastructure rehabilitation.
The Solution
Barge has partnered with the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) through ongoing on-call consulting contracts with their Environmental Division. These contracts encompass a range of services, including ecology, environmental permitting, construction quality assurance and corrective action, mitigation, and hazardous materials management.
To date, Barge has completed various tasks, such as water quality permitting (401/404), preparation of Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPPs), stream mitigation and natural channel design plans, and erosion prevention and sediment control (EPSC) plans. The team has also conducted inspections of EPSC measures, performed environmental surveys including wetland and stream jurisdictional determinations, and executed threatened and endangered species surveys. Other tasks include post-construction monitoring of stream mitigation sites, searches for potential mitigation sites, wetland and stream assessments, and due diligence assessments (Phase I and II) alongside asbestos inspections.
The relationships the team has built over the years with regulatory agencies such as the Tennessee Department of Environment & Conservation (TDEC) and the United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) help streamline the permitting process, ensuring that projects progress efficiently and stay within budget.
The Result
The team's successful collaboration with TDOT demonstrates expertise in environmental consulting and commitment to delivering high-quality services that support the agency's infrastructure development goals. Barge's ability to address a wide range of environmental needs and navigate the complex regulatory landscape has made them a valuable partner for TDOT.
