The Challenge
The Gwinnett County Parks and Recreation Department sought to add new facilities and make significant upgrades to Rhodes Jordan Park, a 163-acre regional park in Lawrenceville, Georgia. The ultimate goal of these improvements was to provide the community with more spaces to relax and play. The park is focused around a lake and is bordered by wooded areas that the City of Lawrenceville also wanted to incorporate into the design.
The Solution
Barge Design Solutions developed construction documents for all site design and construction phase services for the upgrades to Rhodes Jordan Park. The plan included:
- new three-field soccer complex;
- alternative synthetic turf multi-purpose fields;
- two-court basketball facility;
- tournament horseshoe facility;
- two badminton courts;
- 2.1-mile multipurpose trail and boardwalk around the lake's edge that extends to various wooded areas of the park;
- renovations of an existing playground to incorporate the lake trail;
- new waterfront promenade and group picnic area;
- new seawall.
The Result
The park experienced a resurgence in users due to its updated design and new facilities. A broad spectrum of park elements provided a diverse experience that creates a dynamic and safe community amenity.
